Hmm, that’s a useful question 🙏. Partly I think frustrated by algorithms over there so don’t feel I actually get much benefit or connection with people (I know they are here as well but it feels less like I’m being sold to constantly when on this platform). Partly don’t want to support a company with such poor ethics. Largely the AI / owning my own art element (I did adjust my settings but I’m unconvinced Meta give a shit). I’m undecided if I’ll go the full way and remove all of it (and myself). Because I do still like things about it 🙄. And I really like people - there are lots still there aren’t there. How about you?? Do you use it?
It's a gorgeous video.. The best videos for poetry I have seen recently are from Kate Ireland on instagram.. Isabelle Pandora Byrne has lots she submits to film festivals all over the world and Evrah Rose recently did a really powerful one called Invisible Me... oh yes and Jay Delise has some brilliant poetry videos.. really unique
Thank you Nelly, for this inspiring post - I have had a go with making business videos with myself in view which I didnot really like making - this version of sharing texts and poetry is inspiring - thank you! I may have a go at it.
What a lovely video, Nelly! 💕 Thanks for your poem and this thoughtful post. I'd like to learn to edit video, but so far haven't. Each of my videos is one shot. Is there an editing program you recommend? I guess my answer to your question is, yes. I'd like to make poetry videos. ✍️🌷
I used to use iMovie or Moviemaker (both fairly easy) but my daughter tells me Capcut is really straightforward so I think that’ll be my next attempt. I’ve just downloaded the app. If you try it let me know.. x
I love it, Nelly. It's really moving, and engaging, and you will always be happy that you made it, if only for yourself. Our babies grow so fast, my son is 30, my daughter almost 33...
In a completely different realm, I made and edited videos years ago (decades ago) when I lived in California for a bit. They are just videos of footage to music, one of the songs is Hotel California, the others by my musician boyfriend at the time. And it's absolute gold to be able to view them once in a while, to see the people I loved, the places I went to, even while I went through a lot of heartache at the same time. There I am, forever 23... And now I'm 63...and time has just zoomed.
There was a newsletter called Poetry in Motion I believe, could be wrong. They collected and sent our dozens of YouTube video/poetry works. I made a few and was doing research. If I can fund them again I'll post a link
I like to play around with reading and sound/music: I enjoy recording a poem then finding some music to pair it with. It's funny you should ask this question this week as I am planning on having poems read in different languages paired with music in my newsletter next weekend!
I'm considering some audio of my writing. Video would be too time-consuming for me.
I'm interested in your reason for removing your poems from Instagram. Did you have a bad experience?

This is so lovely! You have inspired me to ask my 9 year old to collaborate with me on one!
Oh you so should!!!

Oh thank you so much Lisa. Loads here for me to go and discover, appreciate that x

Oh I hope you do. It’s far less daunting when you don’t have to be on camera and can just play. If you end up making one I’d love to know x

omg that poem made me cry!
It is so moving!
You know my reluctance to speak so I’ve never tried it.
