I didn’t even realise this was a thing but now I do, I can’t wait to give this a try. I’ve just had a leaflet through the door from our local Tory candidate for the upcoming elections…. Seems like a good place to start… 😂😂

I did one using Boris's letter they sent to us all at the start of lockdown. It was very satisfying. And rage inducing

Amazing!! Please tell me you’ve still got it? Is there a way you could share as I bet it’s brilliant!

Urghhh those letters though. My mum used to get them all the time from Matt Hancock and she used to text and say “I’ve had another thing through the post from Matt Handjob” 😂😂😂😂

Your mum sounds awesome! I don't know if I can post an image here but I'll try and find it on my Instagram and post a link, that should work!

Brilliant, looking forward to giving this a try. Your note about word placement reminded me of this poem by e e cummings which co-incidentally I read this morning https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/47247/in-just

There is an account on instagram called momentary memoirs who does erasure poetry by literally cutting out words from a page - it is beautiful.

This is a great prompt! I remember trying blackout poetry years ago when I was reading more of it and then ... stopped.

I don't know why I've not done it before. It is right up my street. Hopefully this will get it started again??? x

This sounds like great fun. I’ve done cutouts where I’ve taken words from articles but I’ve never blacked out the other text.

Oooh yes, love this idea. Ive tried it a few times in the past but not for a while so excited to see what I can do this time. Not sure if it’s just me but the link to the history of blackout poetry doesn’t seem to work when I click on it? X
