Great post Nelly, lots to think about. I would love to learn more about putting a poem together, now that may sound silly, but I am.an avid poetry reader..I wrote a lot of haiku a few years ago, but I struggle to write a poem. Lack of confidence and procrastination stop me. Any answers welcome.
Take care. Looking forward to future posts and getting involved more.
Oh we can do plenty of this next year Sue. It doesn’t sound silly at all. Haiku are a great way to start. There are plenty of us within the community who enjoy and need that reminder to give it a go. Looking forward to you writing more in 2025 too xxx
Thank you for Poetry Pals Nelly, it has improved my poetry significantly, the weekly prompts, the poetry circle and the encouragement, it's been brilliant and I am hoping in 2025 that I will be even more brave with my poetry, maybe take it up a gear, perhaps even submit to journals etc. I wouldn't have done any of that without you and your wonderful space!! :) xx
I started reading and writing along with Poetry Pals in Jan 24 with excitement and good intentions, but I dropped out by Spring overwhelmed with all the other things in life. I was surprised to see, when I flicked to the page the other day, that I did manage 50 poems in 2024. Which is something. I'm going to try and complete the other 50 in 2025. And I'll try and show my face around here a little more too.
50 poems is LOADS. I really like the idea of doing the next 50 in 2025. Have you enjoyed looking back over them? I've realised that some of mine also serve as a sort of 'word montage' of what was going on in my life too. Some of them anyway. Glimpses of what was capturing my attention. Where I needed help figuring stuff out or whatever. I so hear you on the 'other things in life' overwhelm. I'd love to hang out more on here in the year ahead x
Hey there, Nelly. I subscribed to Poetry Pals this fall, because I wanted to get into poetry. Then I felt like a poetry imposter and got overwhelmed by the ridiculous volume of newsletters I’d subscribed to. I ditched Substack for a couple of months then returned and cleared out all my subscriptions. Now I’m starting from scratch. Poetry Pals is on my new list. I want to read poetry, and for the first time ever, really, I want to write it. Thank you for being such an inspiration. Your joy for creation is magnetic. So excited to hang out with you this year!
Poetry pals was such a beautiful space for me when I had the capacity & inspiration to write over the winter/spring last year. I still fan-girl from afar. You created a beautiful space and were the original reason I fell in love with Substack. I look forward to seeing whatever you do next!
THANK YOU, Nelly. For this past year. For pouring into us. For all that you have done to build this community. It has been the most wonderful gift. I am here and filled with anticipation for another year of words within this literary village. (And please let us be of assistance with guest posts or creating prompts or anything that will help ease the load for you.)
What a year, and what a time to be writing. I share your concerns about platforms like substack diverting creative energy away from longer term, often more solitary pursuits like writing a book. However you approach it, wishing you a 2025 filled with peace and poetry 💗
Nelly, GET OUT OF MY HEAD! 😂 I fell more in love with poetry last year, and I am so glad you reached out to me when I first started on Substack. I have let Substack absorb much of my time and energy and have decided to get more involved with Poetry Pals. After the Poetry Festival here in Edinburgh, I felt at home amongst all the poets and poetry lovers. I want to write, learn, write, connect, and write more, so I am totally in for 100 poems, the Sunday prompts, and as much as I can handle. What you're doing is incredible, and I can't wait to get more involved with the community this year.❤️ 🌱
I have written 50 poems this year, which i am really pleased with. I would like to write more poems again this year and I would also like to write more generally and start illustrating my work. I have found that writing poetry and a book review on a poetry book has really grown my creative confidence which has also benefited my confidence generally. I am really looking forward to the next writing circle, Nelly have you released dates yet I really want to make them a priority this year.I have so enjoyed being a part of this community.
I discovered Poetry Pals early in my Substack journey and I'm so grateful I did. I have a poetry community here because of Poetry Pals, so I'm looking forward to more in 2025.
I love this post! I've only recently found you and Poetry Pals and already, it feels like this was a meant-to-be happy accident. Serendipity. If I hadn't been musing on committing to Substack properly in 2025, if I hadn't come back to the website when I did, I might not have found your post/note and well, I wouldn't be here typing this now. I'm open for all of the things you have written about!
I'm looking forward to being part of this next year!
Thank you, Nelly, so much for providing such a safe space for us, especially those of us late fledged poets who hate speaking out loud. It has been welcoming and warm and uplifting. Here’s to another fantastic year!
I enjoyed most of our prompts, villanelles were fun; some were odd, golden shovels; and some I’m still struggling with, looking at you sestinas. But I’ve managed a good few poems and for that I’m very grateful. I am very much looking forward to whatever 2025 holds for us.

Love and Peace 🙏 💖 ✨️ ✌️

‘My poetry purchasing ‘problem’ has only got worse in the very best way.’ Love this (love it all) and very much relate!!
It’s been such a lovely community- definitely looking forward to the next year of Poetry Pals.

As Ellen said, I'll be here for all of it.
